The Challengers

Along with the Beachboys, The Challengers were a top So Cal surf band. I recently found my only LP of the band and here's the cover. Check back tomorrow after I post the backside with liner notes by Rick Griffin and Murphy image (thanks to a reader who corrected me on Murphy, he wasn't Murph the Surf)

That was a fun album and a fun time.
On a minor note, Murph the Surf was someone. Murphy was Rick Griffin's character. The two had nothing to do with each other. I can tell you how Murphy came about, if you like?
Folks often get that bit confused.
Jack Roland Murphy or Murph the Surf (born 1938 in Los Angeles, California) is a surfing champion, musician, author, artist and convicted murderer who was involved in the biggest jewel heist in American history at the American Museum of Natural History. Today Jack Murphy is an ordained minister, working with inmates in the field of prison ministry.
